- 9.11 테러 참사 10주년 오바마 대통령 앞 메시지-

대통령님,

9·11 테러참사 10주년을 맞아 대통령님과 미국 국민들에게 깊은 위로의 말씀을 전합니다. 우리는 테러공격으로 목숨을 잃은 희생자들과, 형언할 수 없는 고통과 괴로움을 겪어야 했던 그들의 가족들을 결코 잊을 수 없습니다. 테러현장에서 자신의 목숨을 기꺼이 희생하면서도 다른 희생자들을 살리고자 했던 구조요원들과, 크나큰 슬픔을 용기있게 극복한 미국 국민들을 결코 잊을 수 없습니다. 

우리는 9·11테러로 목숨을 잃은 희생자분들의 삶이 헛되이 되지 않도록 하는 길은 이러한 비극적인 범죄행위가 다시는 발생하지 않게 하는 것이라고 생각합니다. 우리는 자유, 평화, 공동번영을 위한 노력을 계속해 나갈 것이며, 대한민국은 미국의 친구이자 동료로서 이러한 노력에 함께할 것입니다. 우리의 후손들은 과거를 돌아보면서 우리 세대가 극단주의적 사고와 타인에 대한 혐오증에 대항하여 물러서지 않고 정의를 지켜냈다는 것을 배우게 될 것입니다. 우리는 어떠한 어려움 속에서도 결코 굴복하지 않을 것입니다. 

대통령님께 다시 한번 우리의 깊은 위로를 전합니다.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I would again like to convey my deepest condolences on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Korea to the victims who perished in the atrocious attacks of 2001, their bereaved families and the people of the United States. The 9/11 attacks were unpardonable acts against the peace of humanity, and also resulted in Korean casualties.

I hold in high esteem your excellent leadership and the efforts of the United States during the past 10 years in leading the international counterterrorism coalition to secure the peace and security of the international community. The Korean people join me in expressing our admiration for the unified courage and indomitable determination shown by the people and government of the United States in the process of overcoming as grave a tragedy as 9/11.

Based on the spirit of the ROK-US Alliance, the Korean people have been actively participating in the efforts of the international community to eliminate terrorism since 9/11, alongside peace-loving nations including the United States. We will continue to cooperate with you to eradicate such heinous acts of terrorism.
